If you use a storage unit for business stock, tools or equipment, having a delivery sent there could save you collecting it elsewhere and transporting it yourself.
However, a storage unit does not automatically come with a delivery reception service. Before giving a supplier the address, confirm what the facility can accept, who will receive it and when the delivery can arrive.
Can deliveries go to a storage unit?
Yes, at some facilities, provided the delivery has been agreed beforehand. The arrangements depend on staffing, parcel size, handling requirements and access to the site.
At Accrington Container Storage, the published policy allows the team to sign for manageable parcels and place them in your container when pre-arranged.
Do not assume this includes pallets, heavy goods, unrestricted courier access or out-of-hours receiving. Discuss the specific delivery with the team before ordering.
How Do Deliveries to a Storage Unit Work?
There are two arrangements to discuss with a facility:
- You meet the delivery yourself: you arrange an approved arrival time and receive the goods at the site.
- The team receives an agreed delivery: staff accept the parcel under the facility’s delivery policy.
Neither should be assumed. A courier arriving at a gated storage site needs clear instructions, and staff need to know what they have agreed to receive.
If you want ACS to accept a parcel, contact the team first with the delivery details. Confirm that the arrangement is approved before providing the site address to your supplier.
What Should You Confirm Before Sending a Delivery?
“A parcel is coming” may not give the team enough information to assess it. Explain what is being delivered and what receiving it will involve.
| Delivery detail | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Contents | What is inside, and whether it is permitted in storage. |
| Size and weight | The parcel dimensions, weight and number of packages. |
| Arrival | The expected day, delivery window and courier. |
| Recipient details | The exact name and reference to use so the parcel can be identified. |
| Receiving and placement | Who will receive it and how any agreed placement in your container will work. |
| Conditions | Any charges, handling limits, insurance conditions or responsibilities. |
Ask the team for the correct addressing instructions rather than copying the facility address onto an order without an agreed recipient or reference.
Keep your supplier informed of the approved arrangements. If the date, parcel size or contents change, check with ACS again before dispatch.
Does 24/7 Storage Access Mean Deliveries Can Arrive Anytime?
No. Customer access and staff receiving deliveries are separate arrangements.
ACS customers have 24/7 drive-up access, but that does not mean staff are available around the clock to sign for parcels.
Confirm an approved delivery window with the team. Do not instruct a courier to leave goods outside the gate or beside a container if nobody is available.
If you plan to meet the driver yourself, ask about site entry and unloading arrangements beforehand. Do not give a courier your personal access details unless ACS has expressly approved that method.
Can Pallets or Heavy Goods Be Delivered to a Storage Unit?
A facility’s agreement to accept manageable parcels does not automatically cover pallets, machinery or heavy building materials.
Before placing a larger order, confirm:
- Whether the delivery is accepted at all
- The total dimensions and weight
- Whether the delivery vehicle can access the approved unloading area
- Who is responsible for unloading and moving the goods
- What equipment or assistance is required
- Whether you must attend in person
Do not assume the site has a forklift, pallet truck or staff available for lifting. Ask the supplier what its delivery service includes and agree the unloading plan with ACS.
For a large or heavy consignment, get the arrangement confirmed before the supplier dispatches it.
When Can Deliveries to Storage Be Useful for a Business?
Pre-arranged deliveries may be useful when you store boxed stock, spare parts, tools or other permitted equipment away from your home or workplace.
For example, an agreed parcel delivery could reduce the need to receive stock at home and then make a separate journey to your unit.
However, occasional parcel receiving is different from a staffed warehouse or fulfilment service. Do not assume the team will check quantities, inspect contents, manage returns, pick orders or arrange onward dispatch.
If you expect frequent deliveries, discuss the volume and schedule before choosing storage. Our business stock storage guide explains how to assess whether a container suits your wider requirements.

Make Sure Your Container Is Ready
Before an agreed delivery, leave enough clear space for the goods. Avoid blocking the doors or creating a layout that requires existing items to be moved before a parcel can be placed inside.
Check that incoming stock is suitable for the storage environment. Perishable goods, hazardous materials or products needing specific temperature control require a different discussion.
Read our guide to what can and cannot be stored in a container before ordering unfamiliar items.

Storage Unit Delivery FAQs
Can ACS accept parcels for storage customers?
ACS’s published policy allows the team to sign for manageable parcels and place them in your container when pre-arranged. Contact the team to confirm the specific parcel before sending it.
Can I send a delivery without telling the storage team?
Do not send a delivery without prior agreement. Confirm the contents, size, timing, recipient details and receiving arrangements with the team before ordering.
Does 24/7 access include out-of-hours parcel receiving?
No. Customer access does not mean staff are available to receive parcels at all hours. Agree the delivery window and who will receive it beforehand.
Can I have pallets delivered to my storage unit?
Ask ACS before placing the order. Acceptance of manageable parcels does not automatically include pallets. Confirm vehicle access, unloading responsibilities, equipment and whether you need to attend.
Can I use the storage site as a general postal address?
Do not assume permission to receive an agreed parcel allows general mail, business registration or unrestricted use of the address. Discuss each intended use with ACS separately.
Will the storage team inspect or count my delivery?
Do not assume parcel receiving includes checking contents, quantities or condition. Agree the receiving responsibilities with ACS and clarify any requirements with your supplier.
Need Storage With Pre-Arranged Parcel Deliveries?
Tell ACS what you need to store and the deliveries you expect. The team can discuss container availability and whether the proposed delivery arrangements are suitable.
